Red Delicious

You might recall I have a side hobby painting furniture. This has been put on the back burner while I get my Thirty-One Gifts business up and running but I still very much enjoy the task and expect I'll be working away in the basement a lot this winter.

One of the main reasons I began was because of a few projects I wanted to do around the house. Selling some items first gave me a few test pieces and produced the funds to buy additional tools I desired. I also lucked out and came across a thing where Glidden would send you a free quart of paint! It just so happens that quart is the perfect size for small projects so many of my friends and family received a package in my name. :-)

One of these lovely free quarts was Red Delicious.

Without further delay. I present - our family room accent table.
Maybe you didn't know but our family room doubles as a cave with no light. Check out the shots I took on the porch below to really see how red and delicious!

I would love to say that I spent hours and hours perfecting the aged look. I intented to paint and paint and paint some more and then distress and add a dark glaze to achieve that "painted 50 years ago" look. Turns out when your piece is old enough it soaks the paint right up and produces the most amazing whitewash effect with just one coat of paint and a few coats of wax to protect it.

I won't mind if you whistle at her legs!

A very special thanks to my parents sweet neighbor Mrs. Wieble who gave this gem to my brother. After he upgraded to a larger dining table he gave it to me!

There is more where this came from! I'm wrapping up the table for our screened porch right now!
